Mr M a pensioner from the South West of England was cold canvassed by Cisco Homes. He was visited by a surveyor / salesman who stayed in his property for over 4 1/2 hours. Mr M told us that he felt under a lot of pressure to place an order with Cisco and once he had placed the order, they installed the spray foam within 3 days of him signing their contract.

Mr M felt very angry and frustrated when he tried to release some money from his property and was told because of the spray foam, no equity release company would release funds. He was also persuaded at the point of sale to buy new traditional mineral fibre loft insulation, a roof cleaning process and new coating for his exterior walls.

The open cell spray foam was installed onto a non-breathable bitumen felt membrane. This goes against the BBA Certificate that covers the installation of the spray foam, there was no additional ventilation in his loft space and effectively the open cell spray foam was choking his loft, he had no airflow, the loft was not breathing and the foam was removed.

We removed the open cell spray foam from the eaves, from in between the rafters and from the internal timber ridge line. The original bitumen felt was preserved and was in a very good condition considering it had been covered by the spray foam for a number of years.

We managed Mr M's project from start to finish. We worked very closely with the surveyor from the equity release company and we followed his instructions. After removing the spray foam from in between the rafters, we invited the surveyor to revisit, which he did and he gave Mr M's loft the all clear.

Our team specialises in removing open and closed cell spray foam and bringing your property back to a condition where it can be sold or you can release equity from it. We issued our completion certificate after getting the go ahead from the equity release surveyor, who was registered with RICS.
You decided that the time was right to sell your home, you invite the local estate agent to visit, you agree terms and put your home on the market. Your home is sold and at the asking price, great news for you, until the buyers surveyor calls around to carry out his buyers survey, when he looks in the loft.... FAILURE, YOUR BUYERS CANNOT GET A MORTGAGE BECAUSE OF THE SPRAY FOAM. Who do you call, SFIR Home Improvements, they are the best and most trusted in the spray foam removal industry.

Mr & Mrs H of Worcestershire were cold canvassed and convinced by a supposed surveyor to have open cell spray foam installed into their loft. The supplying company took away their standard loft insulation, which should have been left in place and topped up to 270mm the government standard.

We provided Mr & Mrs H with a free roof assessment, which detailed the findings of their loft space and the condition of the roof. It was noted that the salesperson / surveyor told them to remove their old insulation, told them the timbers were damp and they needed to install spray foam as this was the best.

Whether you are looking to have spray foam removed, SFIR Home Improvements can help just as we did for Mr & Mrs H. These are just some of the pictures taken showing just how bad the insulation was installed, it was uneven, it filled the eaves and it blocked all of the ventilation points.

We started by removing the old cardboard and carpets that were laid on the floor, we then started to remove the open cell spray foam by working upwards from the eaves towards the internal ridge line.
Clearing the eaves of the property opened up the ventilation points within the loft, we also cleared the mechanical ventilation points that had been over sprayed and blocked.

We managed Mr & Mrs H project from start to finish. We were asked to liaise with a firm of RICS Surveyors, which we did. They had specific requirements that they wanted us to conform to, which we did and we do for every spray foam removal job. We reinstalled traditional mineral fibre loft insulation to the current government standard of 270mm.

Once finished, we arranged for the RICS surveyor to come back to the property, he inspected the work and made very positive comments on how professional the work had been completed, how well the new insulation had been laid and he agreed for us to provide our post removal report and completion certificate. Mr & Mrs H were extremely pleased with the work.

Happy New Year.

Another Spray Foam Insulation company, Riva Surveyors Ltd, caught scamming customers, by high pressure salespeople.
Karma is an amazing thing.
The fine is not high enough in our opinion. One of the directors has 73 companies to his name, of which one is a court bailiff service.
Firm ordered to pay £48,000 for loft foam scam.

Great News today (17th July 2025), we had a customer that was referred to us by an estate agent, who had spray foam insulation badly removed by another company. She was trying to sell her property, but the surveyor was not happy with the way the work was done.
We carried out a pre-removal roof assessment, provide a detailed report, was instructed to complete the works needed, provided a post removal report with pictures, and issued a removal certificate.
We have a very happy customer (lady) who just phoned us to say the mortgage company have authorised the buyers mortgage, having received our removal certificate and post removal report.
The buyers mortgage was through First Direct, which is part of HSBC.

It may sound obvious, but so many companies neglect to inspect the loft space correctly. Here at SFIR we start by making sure the roof structure is in good order. After the spray foam has been removed we complete a detailed assessment of the roof timbers for rot, fungal growth, or structural weakening caused by trapped moisture from spray foam insulation, we take moisture readings to ensure no damp or moisture is present. One of our loft assessors will evaluate the quality of the spray foam removal work undertaken in your loft, ensuring complete and proper removal without any residual material being left behind.
Removing closed cell polyurethane spray foam is an intense and laborious operation. Many of the new start up companies and those who have previously sold spray foam do not understand the techniques needed to remove the spray foam from the back of the tiles or the bitumen felt membrane. We use the revolutionary CWB process, which produces great results and cleans the tiles without any damage, with very little pressure applied to the tile, unlike others who use crowbars, cold chisels and hammers, which can all cause severe damage to the roof structure.
